Experience
I am a qualified and registered Clinical Psychologist from South Africa with over 10 years of experience providing clinical care and training in government clinics, hospitals, tertiary academic contexts and private practice. For the past five years, I have been practicing in the United Arab Emirates.
I am interested in the intricate ways our early-life relationships and experiences shape our sense of self, our interactions with others and the way we navigate the world. There are numerous external and internal demands you face throughout life, which may bring you to therapy. This may include coping with the pressures of a stressful work environment, adjusting to challenging life events, negotiating relationship difficulties, trauma and or unresolved inner conflict or anguish.
Areas of Expertise
Painful feelings and problems are part of being alive.
Psychotherapy aims to address the pain, grief and growth that result from problems and the search for solutions.
I offer both short- and long-term psychotherapy for adults, adolescents and the parent-infant dyad for concerns including:
- Depression and other Mood Disorders/Difficulties
- Anxiety disorders and Stress-related concerns
- Infant and Maternal/Parental Mental Health
- Parenting Difficulties
- Personality Disorders/Issues
- Grief and Loss
- Trauma
- Adult Autistic Experience
- Relationship and Family difficulties
- Stressful life events or Life Transitions
- Concerns related to Sexuality and Sexual Identity
- One’s sense of Self and Purpose
- Emotional, physical and sexual abuse
- Coping with chronic illness and physical health problems
Treatment Techniques
I work from a primarily psychodynamic perspective, while also drawing on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and humanistic approaches in my practice. I carefully consider each client’s unique current circumstances, background and innate ways of thinking and feeling to address their specific needs.
