Experience
With over a decade of clinical experience, I have worked across private practice, non-profit organisations, universities, and schools in both South Africa and the UAE. My background in multicultural settings allows me to offer culturally sensitive psychological support and adapt my integrative, relational approach to diverse client needs.
I am a South African counselling psychologist, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as well as the Community Development Authority in Dubai. After completing my undergraduate and Honours degree in Psychology at Stellenbosch University, I pursued a master’s degree focusing on family resilience. I later completed a second master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, graduating cum laude. I have provided therapeutic care and training in a range of settings including private practice, non-profit organisations, universities, and schools. My multicultural training, along with professional experience in both South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, enables me to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and to offer culturally sensitive psychological support. I also hold a holistic view of people as they move through various life-stages, attending not only to areas of difficulty but also to sources of strength and resilience.
Carl Rogers said, “The process of the good life is not a life for the faint-hearted. It involves the stretching and growing of becoming more and more of one’s potentialities. It involves the courage to be. It means launching oneself fully into the stream of life.” As we launch ourselves into this stream of life, we inevitably face change, challenge, and uncertainty. I am passionate about creating a safe, non-judgmental, and empathic therapeutic space where clients feel supported in navigating life’s complexities and empowered to pursue meaningful change.
Areas of Expertise
I specialise in adult psychotherapy, offering therapeutic support for a broad range of emotional, psychological, and life challenges including:
- Grief, loss, and trauma (including PTSD and adverse childhood experiences)
- Existential concerns, life transitions, and adjustment to significant life events (e.g. divorce, relocation, illness)
- Relationship, family, and parenting difficulties
- Identity, self-esteem, and emotional regulation
- Mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder
- Anxiety disorders (e.g. generalised anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, and health anxiety)
- Work-related stress and burnout
- Personality disorders
- Personal growth and psychological development
Treatment Techniques
My therapeutic approach is integrative, and grounded in the belief that the relationship between therapist and client forms the foundation of the therapeutic process and is central to meaningful change. This integrative, relational approach allows me to consider each client’s unique characteristics, needs, and context, and to tailor the therapeutic process to both the individual and the evolving therapeutic dynamic.
My practice is informed by a range of evidence-based models and approaches including psychodynamic psychotherapy, humanistic approaches, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Transactional Analysis, Mindfulness-based approaches and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
